The New England Planters who rose in rebellion along the St. John River during the American Revolutionary War will be the focus of the next presentation in the York Sunbury Historical Society Speaker Series, featuring historian Dr. Gary Campbell.

This LIVE event is FREE and will be held via ZOOM at 7 pm on Thursday, March 17, 2022.  The presentation will be recorded and made available online after the event.

Sunbury County, Nova Scotia (present day New Brunswick) was a hot bed of rebel activity during the American Revolution. Many of the New England Planters, who lived along the St. John River, rose in rebellion. The area was twice invaded by the American rebels. This presentation will provide the background story to these events and describe how the rebellion was successfully suppressed.  With the 250th anniversary of the American Revolution occurring in four years, this presentation will be of interest to both Canadians and Americans.

Major (Ret’d) W. E. (Gary) Campbell is the Past President of the York-Sunbury Historical Society. A former logistics officer, he has a BA (UWO), an MA (War Studies) (RMC) and a PhD (UNB). He is the author of two books in the NB Military Heritage Series of UNB’s Gregg Centre for the Study of War and Society.
