This program has a direct focus on archaeology. Defined as the study of human activity in the past, primarily through the recovery and analysis of material culture; archaeology is most often touched upon when learning about history. Plus, who does not like to get their hands dirty and find cool stuff?
Archaeology is an area of study which engages all senses and has the participant discovering artefacts and drawing conclusions on what they have found. Our station-based program does just that! Each station draws the learner into the world of archaeology and the world of discovering history with your hands. There is even a digging station where participants must uncover artefacts, flag them, draw them and then attempt to make a conclusion based on what they have found. What does this tell us about the past?
The duration of this program is suggested at one-and-a-half hour with twenty minutes at each station and five minutes in between for switching. Cost is $4 per participant with instructors free. You are permitted one free chaperone per ten children with any additional being charged the $4 dollar fee. The program is recommended for grades 3 to 5 and fits into the elementary school Social Studies curriculum. This would also be a perfect program for Brownies, Girl Guides and Cubs.
