This year the Fredericton Region Museum is holding its annual open house on Saturday, August 6, from 9:00AM until 4:00PM. It will feature all of the traditional benefits such as free admissions and activities for all ages, but it will also include some new twists for the  whole family!

This year’s Open House Day will be a fundraiser for two museum projects: our beautiful second storey balcony and the addition of a children’s component to the new medical exhibit. There will be a yard sale from 9:00AM until 12:00PM, and a bake sale from 9:00AM until 4:00PM. There will also be several raffles with tickets costing $2 each or 3 for $5. Downtown businesses have been generous enough to donate merchandise for the baskets, including Strange Adventures Comic Book Shop, Endeavours Art Stuff, Blonde  Inc., Made You Blush, Bejewel, Harvey’s  Studio, Savour Decour, Aitken’s Pewter, Thornes Flowers, The Palate Restaraunt and Urban Almanac.

The children’s program, A Taste of History: Bubblegum, will be running from 12:00PM until 4:00PM which allows kids to make their own bubblegum for the price of $5! There will also be face painting, kid’s crafts and colouring pages. Adults will be given the opportunity to have an interactive glimpse into our extensive collection by accessioning artifacts. We will also be introducing our three new exhibits, the medical exhibit From Black Bag to High Science, the Victorian undergarments exhibit Somewhere Over the  Rainbow…Bloomers Fly?, and the new nurses exhibit The Lamp and the Union.

While visiting, make sure to stop by Hannah’s Tea Place where Hannah will be serving a variety of herbal teas, coffee and juice accompanied by a homemade sugar cookie for the price of $2. Cavelle MacDonnell’s art studio and gallery will be open to the public from 9:00AM until 4:00PM for the viewing and purchasing of Cavelle’s paintings, along with local and international artwork. Art lesson appointments are also available.
